Lazy Santa is a 2D puzzle-platformer game that I made in 48 hours for Yogscast Game Jam 2020 in December 2020.
As is always the case when I do a game jam, this was a pretty big project to undertake in just two days. The theme of the jam was "Surprise" so I came up with the idea of a 2D puzzle-platformer where you play as an elf and have to solve puzzles to wake up a very lazy santa using various different things around the environment. I wanted to create a charming and goofy little game with a Christmas-y cartoony vibe. In 48 hours I designed and developed all the levels/mechanics/puzzles, created all art assets, produced original music, sourced sound effects, play-tested/bug-fixed and polished the game, then published it on itch.io.
I was pretty happy with how this game turned out. I think I achieved what I set out to achieve, creating a game with a cute art style and fun and interesting puzzles to complete. I managed to achieve a decent level of polish in this game and it includes start and end cutscenes and lots of audio and little details. This project really helped me to develop my level/puzzle design skills and 2D art skills. The game was developed in Construct 3 with hand-painted art created in Photoshop.
This was my final jam for my "1 jam per month" challenge that I set myself in 2020, and I think I definitely ended my challenge on a high!
